The group’s first production,
H.M.S. Pinafore, was produced in 1945. Over the years they have
performed some of the well-known standards of Broadway, such as:
Fiddler on the Roof, Camelot, Oklahoma and Show Boat.
They have also introduced
several lesser-known shows to local theatergoers, such as
Tenderloin, Around the World in Eighty Days, Donnybrook and Plain
and Fancy.
In September of 2000, they
presented a review written by many of its members called, “The
Century on Broadway”, which followed the evolution of Broadway
over the 20th Century.
Over the years, the Singers
have called many places home. They have performed in the building
which is now the Yelle School Auditorium, the old town hall, and
in recent years at Wheaton College’s Watson Auditorium and the
Norton Middle School.
The group has attracted local
talent, as well as people from such distant communities as
Chelmsford, Methuen, and Spencer, MA, to be part of their
productions.
